Our teams have been busy transforming all types of concrete surfaces throughout Portland and Bend, from garages to mudrooms to man caves. We take every opportunity to educate our clients along the way, sharing exactly what makes our concrete coating system so unique and answering key questions they may have.

Today, let’s address an awesome question about garage floor coatings that we’re asked pretty often. And, for the answer we went straight to Scott, our Webfoot Concrete Coatings General Manager (and general concrete guru).

Can I Coat a Heated Garage Floor, or Radiant Heated Shop Floors?

Yes!

If you have a radiant heat system within your garage or shop floor, we can absolutely still coat your floor. No question.

Will My Concrete Coatings Delaminate or Peel If I Have Radiant Heat?

No! The adhesion we achieve, and the chemical and mechanical bond our coating creates with the concrete, make it an absolute non-issue. Just another reason why we prefer this system over more traditional (and dated) epoxy alternatives. Find all the reasons why right here!

Will the Coating Prep Process Damage the Heating Elements in My Concrete?

When we grind your concrete floor as part of the prep process, we’re only removing the very top layer (less than half an inch!). It doesn’t come close to the actual elements within your slab.

Should I Turn Down My Radiant Heat Before Coating My Garage Floor?

We actually prefer that you turn the temp up in the winter before we coat. Why? Well, we want the floor to be warmer than the air temp to avoid condensation. Also, a warmer floor in winter speeds up the curing time, allowing us to move faster and not wait as long between steps. Just please do let us know in advance that the temp will be up so that we can bring the right products along for the job.

Is Radiant Heat Bad for My Concrete Floor Coating?

We take performance seriously... In fact, our polyurea garage floor system comes with a 15-year warranty against any sort of chipping, peeling, or delamination. The polyurea basecoat and polyaspartic topcoat are actually 4x stronger than epoxy, and 10x as flexible, too! Unlike epoxy, heat is just a non-issue, whether it’s coming from underneath/within (like radiant heat), or above (UV exposure). Hot-tire pickup also will never happen!

Extreme Conditions? Our Concrete Coatings Don’t Break a Sweat

Because of the extreme adhesion and chemical bond that Scott talked about, our coatings are impervious to a wide variety of application conditions. We can apply them to a hot driveway on an August afternoon, or to a commercial walk-in refrigerator. The bond is the same, and the performance is secure.

We Love Talking Concrete!

Have a question about our concrete coating system? We welcome it! And who knows? If it’s a particularly good one, you may even find it featured in an upcoming article.
